Bowling Green Police responded Thursday (8/29) after the owner of a storage unit facility found a possible explosive ordnance while cleaning out an abandoned unit.
Police were called to a home in the 700 block of East Gypsy Lane Road around 11:30 p.m., after the owner had taken the possible RPG to her home, thinking that it might be a replica. However, after speaking with someone she knew in the military, she was advised to put the gray metal ordnance outside and call police.
When police arrived, officers determined the suspected RPG round had a visible serial number and could be real. Assistance was requested from the Toledo Police Department Bomb Squad.
The bomb squad arrived at the scene around 1:15 a.m., and determined it was possible that the round was still active. However, the crew felt it could safely be moved since the storage unit owner had moved it multiple times.
The ordnance was loaded into the bomb trailer to be transported to a secure facility for proper disposal.
