Bonnie Jay Cress, 69, entered into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 15, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Bonnie was born on December 12, 1954 to James and Roberta Fealty of New Lexington Ohio. A devout, loving, faithful Christian wife and mother, Bonnie was a caring person with a wonderful sense of humor and a passion for being kind to people, whether it be bringing a cup of hot chocolate to a school crossing guard on a cold December day or taking cookies to workers at a fast food restaurant. She enjoyed watching her children participate in various activities. She loved to sing and listen to Christian music and attend church, and she enjoyed being with family and friends, especially relaxing around a fire pit or sitting in lawn chairs enjoying each other’s company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Kay Russo.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 38 years, Jim Cress; two sons, Jason (Ellen) Cress of Columbus Ohio, and Brian (Jacquelynne) Cress of Ft Wayne Indiana; a daughter, Amy (Ben) Sherman of Elyria Ohio; four grandchildren (Riley and Abigail Cress of Columbus, Griffin Cress of Ft Wayne, and Nora Sherman of Elyria); a sister, Karen Rutherford of Johnstown Ohio; and a brother, Steve (Jean) Fealty of Somerset Ohio.
The long battle against Alzheimer’s took its toll on Bonnie, both emotionally and physically. But thru it all, she never questioned God or challenged Him for allowing these circumstances into her life. Instead, nursing home staff would testify that she continued to sing gospel songs of praise as long as she was physically able. Thru this battle, Bonnie became an example of how a Christian lives thru adversity with the hope and promise of eternal life provided thru Christ.
