A Bradner woman, convicted three previous times for OVI, was charged by BG Police for a hit-skip crash in the downtown area on Friday (11/15).
Heather Roman, 35, was cited for hit-skip and OVI refusal. Her license was confiscated, and she was taken to Wood County Jail. The police report noted that she has been convicted of operating a vehicle under the influence three times before, with her last conviction date of March 20, 2024.
Around 1 a.m. on Friday, several people flagged down a police officer in the 200 block of North Main Street to report a crash had just occurred.
A driver told police he was slowing for the red light at North Main Street and Court Street, when a black car rear ended his truck. The driver of the truck said he got out of his vehicle and motioned for the other driver to pull over into a nearby parking lot. However, the car then reportedly sped off heading south on Main Street. Several witnesses said the driver was a female wearing a pink hat.
Meanwhile, another police officer located the black car in the 400 block of South Church Street. Roman, who was wearing a pink hat, was in the car. The front bumper of the car was damaged. A downtown camera recorded the crash.
Roman reportedly denied hitting the truck, and denied drinking alcohol that evening, though police noted her slurred speech, glassy eyes and difficulty standing.
In addition to the front bumper damage, the officer also observed fresh scrapes along the entire passenger side, and the passenger mirror was missing.
Police asked Roman to perform field sobriety tests, which she reportedly had difficulty doing. At the police station, Roman refused a breath test. She was transported to Wood County Hospital for a blood test, then taken to jail.
