Brain Health Fair offered through Wood County Committee on Aging

A Brain Health Fair is being planned on Friday, March 19, in honor of National Brain Awareness Week.

The free educational online event is for patients, caregivers, students and local members of the community who are looking for a fun, out-of-the-box way to spend their afternoon. This program appeals to those who are fascinated with the inner working of the brain and those interested in learning about the latest brain science information.

The goal? To foster a culture of empathy and compassion for those with neurologic conditions.

All participants will have access to the following:

• An at home activity packet on brain awareness and exercises posted on www.wccoa.net

• A chance to win a $25 gift card, sponsored by Bowling Green Manor

• Lots of resources about brain health

• An opportunity to ask a neurologist questions

The event will be March 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., via Zoom. It will feature a talk at 2 p.m. on the “Inner Workings of the Brain” by Lynn Ritter, Ph.D.

An “Interactive ‘Myth’ Game” will be held at 2:45 p.m., and questions and answers with a neurologist at 3 p.m.

The neurologist, Dr. Howard Schecht, graduated with his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio and is board certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology. He specializes in neuromuscular disorders/neuropathy, dementia and clinical neurophysiology (EEG, EMG). He is also a certified specialist in Multiple Sclerosis and board certified in Headache Medicine.
