Candelaria Pompa Serrato, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2017 in Bowling Green. She was born to the late Castulo and Theodora Pompa in February of 1925 in Dolores Tx. Her father was a coal miner and she often told stories of her childhood living near the Rio Grande in a coal mine village. She was very proud of being a “coal miners” daughter.
She met the love of her life, Trinidad in Arkansas. They married in September of 1941 in Mississippi. It was the era of World War II and shortly thereafter, her husband was off to serve in the military. Her strength, hardwork, and endurance sustained during that time, along with her faith. They moved to Ohio in 1946 where they raised their family of ten kids. Her endurance prevailed again during the Vietnam era as four of her sons and a brother served their country.
She worked at Brighams Greenhouse for many years. She loved flowers, listening to spanish music, gardening (especially her strawberries), traveling, and collecting rocks. Cande was well known in the area for her famous tamales. Her biggest passion was her family. She was very proud of her kids and all her grandchildren. She cherished her beloved husband of 71 years marriage.
Preceding her in death were beloved parents, husband Trinidad, brother Vic, two grandsons, one great granddaughter and one great great grandson.
Children surviving to cherish her memory; Dolores (Joe) Cremar, Trinidad II (Rita), Ricardo (Mary), Reynaldo (Julie), Christopher (Jenny), John (Violet), Zeke (Elizabeth), Lucy (Alfredo) Gutierrez, Carlos (Sue), Jane (Scott) Perez; 52 Grandkids, 90 great grands kids, and 57 great great grandkids, many nieces and nephews.
Her legacy will be her strength, wisdom, and the unconditonal love she bestowed on her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
