A car crash at Bowling Green Road West and Mitchell Road knocked out power for more than three hours on much of the west side of the city Friday evening.
John Stewart, head of the city’s electric department, said that the crash broke the power pole so hard that wires welded together. He was not aware if there were any injuries as a result of the crash.
The power for much of the city west of the electric substation on West Poe Road, near the county fairground, was knocked out from around 6 p.m. to nearly 9:30 p.m., with a brief period in the middle when power returned.
Stewart said four or five city electric workers will return to the crash site on Saturday to change out the broken pole.
