Carl D Hall

Carl D. Hall, 86, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Tuesday September 20, 2016. He was born February 11, 1930 in Lathrop, Missouri to Fred and Hazel (Shrewsbury) Hall. He married Kathleen Mills on June 11, 1994 and she survives in Bowling Green.

Carl was drafted into the United States Marine Corps for two years, serving 1952-1954. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was stationed in San Diego, California and Camp LeJune, North Carolina.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State College. He then went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1958. While at the University of Iowa, he was appointed as a full time instructor in design in 1956.

In 1957, Carl was appointed to head a design program with the School of Art at Bowling Green State University. This program grew from start to 220 majors by 1985. He started the hot glass program in 1970 and retired from BGSU in 1985 as Professor Emeritus.

In 1971 he designed the Ginsu Knife. Carl was an Eagle Scout, painter, licensed relator and held his private pilot license. He was a charter member of the Bowling Green Curling Club where he served as president for two years and was on the board for six years, president of the Ohio Curling Association for two years and on the board for six years, president of the Bowling Green Optimist Club for two years and President of the Ercoupe International Owers for two years.

Along with his wife of 22 years, Kathleen, Carl is survived by his son Kirk Hall of Bowling Green, Ohio, step-son Erik Clark of Bowling Green, Ohio, step-daughter Elizabeth Clark-Hague (James) of California and three grandsons Cameron Hague, Mitchell Hall and Keaton Hall. He was preceded in death by his son Charles Hall.
