Cedar Creeks Preserve entrance will be closed Thursday for natural area management

Cedar Creeks Preserve in Northwood

From WOOD COUNTY PARK DISTRICT

NORTHWOOD—The entrance to Cedar Creeks Preserve will be closed on Thursday (Jan. 16) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow for the management of natural areas.

Cedar Creeks Preserve is located at 4575 Walbridge Road, Northwood. Pedestrian access from the north side of the preserve will remain open, but barricades will restrict visitor access to the area being mowed near the preserve entrance.

Stewardship Department staff will use a forestry mulcher to mow the prairie near the entrance. The primary purpose of this work is to remove invasive tree species–Buckthorn and Callery pear–that have encroached into these areas. As the forestry mulcher works, woody debris may be thrown, necessitating closures to keep people a safe distance from the work. Barricades and signs will be posted and strictly enforced.

Over the winter and early spring months, the area mowed by the forestry mulcher will look
significantly different than it does today. As the warm weather progresses into summer, the well-
established prairie plants will return without the encumbrance of invasive trees. This work is important to the long-term health of the natural areas at Cedar Creeks Preserve.

As weather permits throughout 2025, similar work will be completed at other Wood County Parks.
