Children invited to ‘blast into Tomorrowland’ at Community Learning Center summer camps

For the 23rd consecutive year, the Wood County Educational Service Center CLC is inviting Wood County students to join adventure filled summer camp experiences, this time on a journey to “Tomorrowland.”

These camps will offer K-6 students themed enrichment and academic activities, 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, all summer long, and are located in Bowling Green, North Baltimore, Rossford, and Northwood Elementary Schools.

The campers, or “time travelers,” will stay busy all summer, creating their own robots, futuristic mobiles, and using geospatial technology. They will grow their own tomato plants and mini gardens at each site, and participate in other activities, such as virtual field trips to locations like Hershey’s Park, Nickelodeon Headquarters, Disney World, and more.  Campers will also be taking care of butterflies and fish this summer, with one lucky camper from each site taking a goldfish home.

Campers will have the opportunity to travel to the Rutherford B. Hayes Museum, Indian Creek Zoo, Imagination Station, and Sauder Village every other Friday, plus visit the Grand Rapids or Pemberville pool every other week.  On pool days, one camper from each site will be chosen to be a “Space Cadet,” a student who helps friends, uses manners, listens to directions, and spreads positivity.  This cadet will earn a space-themed bag filled with hands-on activities to do at home.

Finally, campers will have many other opportunities for enrichment this summer, including writing weekly pen pal letters and swapping them with other friends from Wood County; participating in WeRead, where all campers will read “Meet the Robinsons” and watch the movie towards the end of the summer, enjoy sprinklers on Tuesdays for “splash days,” and have daily mindfulness, Camp in the Box, and STEAM projects. On Mondays, students will be taking time out to do community service for their school and district. This may be helping cleaning the grounds, spreading kindness, or going the extra mile for a community partner.

All sites will offer students a healthy breakfast and snack. Bowling Green-Crim and North Baltimore will additionally have free lunches provided by Connecting Kids to Meals, and Northwood Local School District will provide daily hot lunches.

Anyone looking to keep a student engaged in learning, physically active, experiencing new places, and making new friends, check out www.wcesc.org to enroll the student in CLC Tomorrowland Summer Camp.
