A contested Republican primary race for county recorder ended in a dead heat.

The unofficial results Tuesday night showed incumbent James Matuszak and challenger Connor Rose deadlocked with 6,189 votes each.

Otherwise, three other contested Republican races, ended in the incumbent’s favor.

For the contested race for county commissioner, Ted Bowlus defeated Cory Kuhlman 6,700-6,383. Bowlus will face Philip Chrysler in the general election.

Incumbent commissioner Craig LaHote was unopposed in the Republican primary, and there was no Democratic candidate.

District 75 State Rep. Haraz Ghanbari defeated Sally Culling, 6,580, or 53.6%, to 5,697, 46.4%. Ghanbari was one of the so-called “Blue 22” who were targeted by right wing groups for joining House Democrats to elect Jason Stephens over the more conservative Derek Merrin for Speaker of the House.

Ghanbari will now face Democrat Jan Materni, who was unopposed, in the general election in a rematch of the 2022 race.

Meanwhile, Merrin, who was term limited, won the three-way Republican primary with about 50% of the vote to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur for the 9th District.

In the 5th District incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Latta garnered 83% of the vote to easily fend off a challenge from Robert L. Owsiak Jr . Latta will face Democrat Keith Mundy in November.
