Curtis V. Davis Jr., 95, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born May 6, 1927, in Warren, Ohio to the late Curtis V. Davis Sr. and Florence (Weaver) Davis. He married Edna Mae Stuller on December 16, 1960 and she preceded him in death July 18, 2013.
Curt (or Junior if you knew him from his youth) was a graduate of Portage High School and went on to attend Bowling Green State University. Many labeled him a “confirmed bachelor” until, at the age of 33, he attended a Halloween party with Edna and married her six weeks later. She was the love of his life.
Curt and Edna attended the Bowling Green Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. For many years they opened their home to serve various BGSU campus ministries including Global Connections, Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ), the Navigators, and Athletes in Action.
Curt was a member of the NRA and the American Legion Post #0725. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Nereus. He was the ship’s Yeoman, librarian, and ping-pong champion.
He learned the skills of carpentry from his father and was a talented craftsman. Curt designed and built more than 40 houses in Wood County (including his own) and spent much of his spare time in his workshop. Having grown up during the Great Depression, Curt was adept at re-purposing items before recycling was “a thing”. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing stories and playing Dominos with his grandchildren. Those who knew Curt also knew that he was also a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. He listened to the Tribe win the World Series on the radio in 1948 and he’d rarely miss a game on television.
Curt is survived by his children Steve (Deborah) Davis of Wayne, Bill Davis of Bowling Green, Frank (Michelle) Davis of Bowling Green, Beth (Bill) Instone of Bowling Green, Miriam (Craig) Batke of Bowling Green and Rebecca (Trevor) Kendrick of Bowling Green, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his friend and “best buddy”, Brett Palmer, and his loyal tom cat, Tom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna, and siblings William Davis, Sidney Davis, Irvin Davis, Alice Poppainen, Florence “Tillie” Kimmel, and Bertha Davis.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Pastor Scott Estep will officiate. Interment will follow at Portage Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the Wood County Honor Detail. Visitation will be held Monday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m.
