Daniel Gordon case closed with no charges

No charges are being pursued against former Bowling Green City Councilman Daniel Gordon.

Wood County Prosecutor Paul Dobson said Friday (April 5, 2019) : “We’ve decided to not move forward on the case.  After we reviewed it, we did not believe we would be able to sustain a criminal charge. “

In October, Gordon resigned from council where he represented the First Ward, having served about seven years. He cited health concerns, and a change in his residence to the Second Ward.

At that time, accusations of rape and sexual assault against him surfaced on social media, and were forwarded to the Bowling Green Police Department.

The investigations were turned over to the Perrysburg and Bowling Green State University police because of where the incidents were alleged to have taken place.

Gordon issued a statement Friday after being contacted by BG Independent News.

“I am grateful that this news reflects the truth. This false allegation has been deeply painful to me.

“Sexual assault is a serious issue. I appreciate that law enforcement took the allegation seriously, and I fully cooperated with the investigation.

“Throughout this time, I avoided taking any action that could be misconstrued as silencing women or being against the #MeToo movement. I believe that when people come forward with allegations, we should listen to them, take them seriously, and investigate. I hope we can build a system that ensures both survivors and the falsely accused can and will obtain justice.

“I look forward to healing, and I am grateful for all those who have supported me during this time.”
