David was born in Barreville, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1924.
While in high school he became interested in the trombone that his brother Alex had left while serving in the Army. His love of the trombone and music would later lead to a career in music performance and education.

They married on January 1, 1948 and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where David completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance at the Cincinnati Conservatory in 1950.
David accepted his first teaching position that fall with a dual appointment in the Bowling Green City Schools and Bowling Green State University. He would later accept a full-time position at BGSU teaching lower brass instruments and music education to thousands of students during his 35-year career at the university. He became a founding member of BGSU’s brass quintet and also played principal trombone in the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his teaching duties, David was the announcer for pre-game and halftime performances of the BGSU marching band. His love of big bands also led him to occasional gigs with the Johnny Knorr Orchestra. In 1987 David retired as Professor of Music from BGSU.
While visiting with friends in Lakeside, he and Ann fell in love with the community and moved shortly thereafter. They became involved in the community and summer Chautauqua season, when David sang in the Lakeside Chorale. In the fall of 2002, David and Ann moved into the Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, where they continued their active involvement and service. David served on the board at Otterbein along with many other volunteer jobs.

Upon relocating to Lakeside, he and Ann became active members of the Lakeside United Methodist Church, where David served in many capacities. He was also a member of Gideons International and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. David was a faithful, non-judgmental, humble man.
