David R. Michel, age 68 of Pemberville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 12, 1951 in Toledo, OH, to Donald H. and Irene (Magsig) Michel. On September 30, 1978 he married Anne Madaras in Bowling Green, OH. Dave and Anne raised 2 children. Dave was a graduate of The University of Cincinnati and Xavier University, where he received his MBA. He worked as the Treasurer of Northwood Schools. He later would serve as the Treasurer of Eastwood Local Schools for 24 years before his retirement. During his tenure he was instrumental in overseeing the continued improvement of Eastwood facilities, including improvements to the high school and the construction of Eastwood Elementary School. Following his retirement, he went on to work at the Ohio Department of Education for 4 years. Dave was an avid sports enthusiast with a particular passion for basketball; a passion stemming from coaching CYO basketball and continued through coaching freshman, JV and varsity boy’s basketball at Eastwood. He most recently was the Boys Varsity Assistant Coach at Clyde High School. In addition to basketball, Dave enjoyed the game of golf. His passion for the game stemmed from working many years at Tanglewood Golf Course and being a member of various golf leagues. His love of sports carried into his extensive collection of sports memorabilia including baseball cards, autographs and jerseys. Dave was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 183. He also was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he often volunteered.
In addition to his wife Anne, Dave is survived by his daughter Leslie (Brian) Myers of Pemberville and son DJ (Ashley) Michel of Fort Myers, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren Melody and Jameson Myers, his sister Kathy (David) McCann of Pemberville, uncle Richard (Janet) Magsig of Dansville, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the funeral home at 4 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2020. Immediately following the service will be a supper to further celebrate Dave’s memory. It will be hosted at the Pemberville American Legion Hall, located at 405 E. Front Street in Pemberville. Dave will be laid to rest in a private family committal at Eisenhour Cemetery in Pemberville.
