Didn’t get the stay-at-home memo – car break-ins continue in BG

Bowling Green Police Division has seen a drop in criminal activity since the stay-at-home order was issued by the governor due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But car break-ins continue in the city.

Last Wednesday, a resident in the 800 block of Sixth Street reported that her unlocked Ford Fusion was entered. She reported the items taken as a Michael Kors purse which contained $200 in cash, her Ohio driver’s license and Social Security number card, and two credit cards. Both credit cards were shut down. Taken from the center console were $30 in cash and her bank checkbook. Also taken was a set of keys that had the vehicle smart key and apartment keys. There was no video surveillance available, according to the police report.

On Friday, a theft was reported in the 600 block of Third Street. The owner of a Honda CRV said items taken included $10 in change, a black Nike hat valued at $20, a white Nike hat valued at $20, and a black pair of aviator sunglasses valued at $40. The owner said the lock on the driver’s door was not working.

Also on Friday, the owner of a Hyundai Elantra reported that the passenger’s side front window was broken out while it was sitting in her driveway in the 300 block of North Summit Street. The owner said a small black purse with a gold colored chain was taken. It was empty at the time.

On Sunday, a theft was reported from a Honda CRV parked in a lot in the 800 block of Thurstin Avenue. The front passenger window had been broken out, and missing was a Gucci purse valued at $300. Inside the purse was hand sanitizer and a comb. No video surveillance was available.

Also on Sunday, the owner of a Chevy Silverado parked in the 600 block of Manville Avenue reported that someone had entered the topper over the pickup bed and stole a crossbow with a scope mounted on top, several arrows in a camouflage bag, along with several golf clubs that belonged to the owner’s dad. The crossbow was valued at more than $500.
