Donald Buehrer

Donald D. Buehrer, 95, of Tontogany, Ohio passed away on October 23, 2023. Donald was born on March 21, 1928, to the late Emil and Lola (Snyder) Buehrer. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Mertz in May 1968, and she survives in Tontogany, Ohio.

Donald was a proud Veteran serving 33 years in the United States Army. In 1944 he went to work for the B&O Railroad as a Telegraph Operator. In 1950 he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Germany and trained as a Radio Operator. In 1952 he was discharged. He returned home and resumed employment with the railroad until 1968. After that he took work continuing to repair and install communication equipment as a civilian for the United States Army and retired in 1988.

Donald was a lifelong member of the Tontogany American Legion, VFW, and the Tontogany Presbyterian Church. Donald enjoyed playing euchre, watching the Detroit Tiger games, fishing, watching steam engines and socializing with his friends and family. He was an amateur radio operator with call letters K8OVO. Above all, Donald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Along with his wife of 55 years Betty, Donald is survived by his son Kevin (Amy) Buehrer of Maumee, Ohio, daughter Amy Perdue of Tontogany, Ohio, brother Orville Buehrer of Tontogany, Ohio, sisters Phyllis Betz of Weston, Ohio, Norma Childs of Bowling Green, Ohio, grandchildren, Conner Buehrer, Sarah Perdue and Grant Perdue.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Donald will be held on Friday October 27, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 18620 Washington St. Tontogany, Ohio 43565. Interment will follow at the Tontogany Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the Tontogany American Legion and the Wood County Honor Detail.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Lybarger-Grimm Post #441 or the Tontogany Presbyterian Church.
