Donald “Donnie” W. Backus Jr., 33, of North Baltimore, passed away Saturday January 21, 2017.
Donnie was born in Columbus, Ohio to Donald Sr. and Karen (Kinn) Backus. He is survived by his mother, Karen, of Bowling Green; sisters: Jennifer Backus of Waterville and Amber Backus of La Salle, Illinois; nephews: Al Baldonado, Brice and Jacob Holdren, and a niece, Hadley Shuey; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved canine companion Poopsie. Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Donald Sr., as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Donnie was a 2002 graduate of Sylvania Southview High School. He attended the University of Toledo and was a member of the Demons of Grace Motorcycle Club where he was given the name of “Stryker”. Donnie was employed with D.S Brown Company of North Baltimore and previously worked for Al-Mar Lanes in Bowling Green. Donnie always dreamed of becoming a professional bowler and bowled many 300 games in his career. He was the Bowling Pin for children that had birthday parties at Al-Mar Lanes and loved singing happy birthday to the kids as well as the Ladies Monday Night league. Donnie also bowled in many leagues at Al-Mar. Donnie was very active in the outdoors, playing tennis, and living life to the fullest. He was a jokester, could make anyone laugh, and loved karaoke. He loved spending time with his family but especially his niece and nephews where once a year during the summer at their family’s cottage on Lake Erie, they would host “Camp Donnie” and have a fun filled week of activities, spend time on the beach, and play games together.
Visitation for Donnie will be on Thursday January 26, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1460 W. Wooster St., Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, where his Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday January 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery, Fostoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donnie’s name to Al Mar Lanes where the Donnie Backus Memorial Scholarship is being set up in his honor for youth bowlers.
