Dorothy Carney

Dorothy Lillian Carney, 95 passed away peacefully Sunday evening at Wood Haven Healthcare surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 24, 1921 to Myron and Chloe Priest Dill near Custar, Ohio. She was a 1939 graduate of Milton Center High School. Dorothy, her sister Catherine and brother Floyd were taken in as young children by their Uncle Norm and Aunt Jesse Priest of Custar where they worked on their farm. She was a very hard worker her whole life and loved milking cows on the Priests’ farm. She always loved to tell the story of how a cow stepped on her foot and it was never the same after that. She was always very grateful to her aunt and uncle that cared for her and gave her a better life.

She married Francis “Tom” Carney on April 26, 1957 and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1992. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Fairy Day and Catherine Dishong and one brother Floyd Dill. She was also preceded in death by one half sister Peach Swope and three half brothers Ted, Dale and Donald Dielman.

They were blessed with three children.  Gloria(Mark) West of Rudolph, Ohio and twin sons Norman (Karla) of Bowling Green and Dorman (Sallie) Carney of Mason, Ohio. She also leaves seven grandchildren. Emily West, Jacob (Kristin) West and Laura (Joe) Pickens, Alex Carney, Alden Carney, Miranda Carney and Shelby Carney.

Dorothy was a long time member of South Liberty United Methodist Church. She played the piano for many, many years for church services. She also would play for the monthly memorial services at Wood Haven where she would eventually be a resident for the last three years.  Dorothy was a homemaker all her life. She taught Sunday School for many years at South Liberty. She was in several clubs including homemakers club, gardening club, mother of twins and ladies aid at the church. She was also a brownie leader for many years.

She was a fantastic mom and grandma. God and her family were first and foremost. She was at every ballgame or sporting event for her kids and grandkids cheering them on. She always loved to go to school events too.  Spelling bees were her favorite and she had to be told to be quiet several times because she was whispering how to spell the words out loud. Dorothy never had a bad word to say about anyone and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the amazing staff of Wood Haven Health Care for the great care she received over the last three years. They go above and beyond to take care of the residents. Thank you also to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care.

Visitation for Dorothy will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of her funeral service at 12:00 Noon in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory,1460 W. Wooster St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Interment will follow in Wingston Cemetery.
