Downtown construction moves onto pavement work

Pavement restoration in downtown Bowling Green has begun with the transitioning of traffic onto the northbound lanes of Main Street (one lane each way) and the milling of the southbound lanes.

The paving contractor will now begin the process of addressing the necessary base repairs. This effort will begin by calling in OUPS to mark the various underground utilities, which will take at least two days.

While the OUPS markings are occurring, the paving contractor will not be onsite. Once the utilities have been marked, the contractor will conduct base repairs that will include excavation of the area, pinning the edges with rebar, and installing concrete within the now fixed road base.

This will begin on South Main Street. When the base repairs in the southbound lanes are complete, an intermediate course of asphalt will be applied and the contractor will repeat this process on the northbound lanes of Main Street.

The remainder of the paving will occur within the downtown in a similar sequence transitioning from South Main, to North Main, and then onto Wooster Street from Church Street to Prospect Street.

The contractor will then begin the various concrete repairs along the sidewalks and ADA ramps. Once complete, the final surface course of asphalt will be applied. Weather dependent and progress of work, paving is anticipated to last through October.

Simultaneously, the utility contractor will be finishing the installation of water service lines and fire lines on North Main Street and then moving onto Wooster Street – beginning on East Wooster next week, July 8. While on Wooster, the contractor will close the road within the work zone in order to install service lines across both lanes of the road. The utility portion of this work will last through July.
