Driver killed in accident on I-75 in northern Wood County

Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 75, near mile post 198, in northern Wood County.

On Friday, at approximately 8:29 p.m., a Ford Explorer operated by Matthew S. Foreman, 41, of Toledo, was traveling north on I-75 in the middle lane.

A Freightliner tractor trailer, operated by Colin Waterfield, 63, of Ontario, was also traveling north on I-75 in the middle lane, ahead of Foreman. Waterfield began to slow down due to traffic ahead when Foreman’s vehicle rear-ended Waterfield’s trailer. Both vehicles came to rest in the middle lane.

Foreman and his 13-year-old daughter, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, were trapped in the vehicle. Both had to be extricated by mechanical means.

Foreman and his daughter were transported to St. Vincent Hospital by EMS. Foreman was pronounced deceased at St. Vincent Hospital. His daughter suffered serious but non- life threatening injuries.

Waterfield was not injured.

All individuals involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Rossford Fire & EMS, Northwood Fire & EMS, Life Flight, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Wright’s Towing.

This crash remains under investigation.
