Excessive heat warning in region expected to be worst in 7 years

From Wood County Emergency Management Agency:

We are in the beginning of an Excessive Heat Warning which our area has not seen in seven years.  All of Wood, portions of Erie, Lucas, Ottawa, and Sandusky counties will have the potential for a heat index of 110.  This will be some of the highest temperatures in the state.  The heat is expected to last until into the evening on Saturday when rain and potential storms move into our area.  Beginning Sunday we will have some relief from the heat.

This will not be just a hot day, it is truly dangerously hot for anyone and everyone should limit their exposure to the heat.  Please consider limiting employees with outdoor responsibilities to essential tasks as able.  Anyone outside needs to remain hydrated, drinking water before going out and while outside.  It is too late to start drinking water once symptoms set in.  Preexisting medical conditions should also be taken into consideration.

We encourage you to check on our children and seniors during this Excessive Heat Warning.  These age groups may not realize they are experiencing medical emergencies due to the heat. But again, this can affect everyone so we encourage you to look for symptoms in anyone you encounter. Please review the attached Extreme Heat information sheet for more information.

Electrical providers are monitoring the conditions to prevent any outages due to the expected high demand. As they have indicated, reduce and conserve, but do not compromise yourself. We all have various electronic devices always drawing electricity in our homes and businesses.  Now is the time to turnoff or unplug electrical devices not in use.

The Wood County EMA Team will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as they become available.
