The Wood County Extension Office will conduct a Dining with Diabetes series in January.
Dining with Diabetes is a cooking school and nutrition education program for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 13% of U.S. adults have diabetes and 35% have pre-diabetes, which means 48% of adults have blood sugars above target.
Because uncontrolled diabetes can lead to future complications, the series of classes is designed to help participants learn how to incorporate good, healthy cooking techniques and other practices into their kitchens to help manage their blood glucose.
During the four-week program, participants will:
- Sample delicious and easy recipes.
- Gain new insights into healthy eating.
- Learn new skills to manage the disease.
- Participate in discussions with a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.
The classes will be held at the Wood County Extension Office, 639 S. Dunbridge Road, Suite 1, Bowling Green, from noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. There is no fee for Wood County residents, but seating is limited and on a first-come basis. For residents outside of Wood County, there is a $40 per person registration fee.
