Please join the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation as we welcome Jennifer Windus, Ohio Invasive Plants Council President on Thursday,
Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Simpson Garden Park. Jennifer will be speaking on Good Plants Gone Bad: Addressing Invasive Plants in Natural Areas. Pre-registration will not be required. Program fee of $5 cash or check will be collected at the door. BGSU students are free with ID.
This program will cover the threats of invasive plants in Ohio and how they damage our natural areas. Jennifer will discuss some of the most invasive plants threatening natural areas and how they can be controlled. She will also provide examples of habitat management being done in Ohio’s state nature preserves to address invasive plants. The information is also relevant to landscaping and habitat restoration in your backyard. Materials will be provided on invasive plants and recommended alternatives.
Jennifer Windus worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in Natural Areas; Preserves and Wildlife for 31 years, retiring in June 2014. She is currently the President of the Ohio Invasive Plants Council and Vice-President of the Ohio Natural Areas & Preserves Association, where she continues to advocate for the control of invasive plants in our natural areas.
