Families are invited to meet 2019 WCDPL Youth Community Reads author/illustrator, Tony DiTerlizzi at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. Tony DiTerlizzi is also the 2019 1BookBG author of Kenny and the Dragon.
This best-selling chapter book was given to elementary students in all Bowling Green schools. DiTerlizzi has authored and illustrated numerous picture books and middle grade titles, including The Wondla Trilogy, and the popular middle-grade series The Spiderwick Chronicles, in collaboration with author Holly Black. The Spiderwick Chronicles has sold millions of copies and has been translated in over thirty countries around the world. The Spiderwick Chronicles was also made into a feature length movie.
DiTerlizzi teamed up with LucasFilm to bring the original Star Wars trilogy to life as a picture book, and worked with popular author Mo Willems to create the bestseller The Story of Diva and the Flea. DiTerlizzi will present to two student assemblies on Tuesday morning and then will share his inspiration and artistic process as well as answer questions. Following his presentation DiTerlizzi will autograph books at this event; Bowling Green families are encouraged to bring their personal copy of Kenny and the Dragon, or any other personal copies of DiTerlizzi’s books, to be signed by the author.
There will be books available for sale at the event through the Friends of the Library, which can be purchased and autographed. Titles for sale include: The Field Guide (Book 1 of the Spiderwick Chronicles), Kenny and the Dragon, Jimmy Zangwow’s Out-Of-This_World Moon-Pie Adventure, and The Search for Wondla (Book 1 of the Wondla Trilogy).
DiTerlizzi will speak to students at Lake and Northwood Schools on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and at the WCDPL Walbridge Branch at 7 p.m. The 2019 WCDPL Youth Community Reads Author visit is supported by a generous gift from the Marjorie Conrad Fund.
