Findlay man charged with assault on BG police officer

A Findlay man was arrested for assaulting a Bowling Green police officer early Sunday morning. Carlos Crooks Jr., 20, reportedly kicked the officer in the face, and was taken to Wood County Justice Center.

Two Bowling Green Police Division officers were on foot patrol downtown at 2:21 a.m. Sunday, in front of 162 N. Main St., when they saw two men fighting, Deputy Chief Justin White said.

As the officers were trying to pull apart Crooks and Matthew Kelly, 29, of Las Vegas, Crooks reportedly grabbed one officer from behind in an effort to get to Kelly, White said. Crooks reportedly kicked the officer in the face, injuring his nose.

Crooks was charged with assault on an officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct-fighting.

Kelly, who became compliant when police approached, was charged with disorderly conduct-fighting.

Also over the weekend, Bowling Green Police Division dealt with:

  • Five people operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
  • One person who was passed out behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition.
  • Five cases of underage consumption.
  • Four people with open containers.
  • Two nuisance parties, which police broke up and cited the residents.
