Four trucks carrying oversized loads were following mandated routes by the Ohio Department of Transportation on Tuesday, when they got stuck on South Main Street near Washington and Kramer streets.
South Main Street is closed downtown for waterline work.
“Obviously, with the construction in town, they got stuck,” said BG Police Lt. Dan Mancuso.
The drivers of the oversized loads ignored the detour sign posted on South Main Street at Napoleon Road.
“They disregarded the detour,” Mancuso said, adding that the drivers are not allowed to divert from ODOT routes for oversized loads.
The ODOT mandated route was from Ohio 25 (Main Street) to Ohio 64 (Wooster Street).
Police escorted two of the trucks to Crim Elementary School and two to Conneaut Elementary School. The trucks were reportedly delivering modular classrooms.
