Fred Thompson

Fred “Steve” Thompson, 76, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away on October 3, 2023 with his wife Karlyn by his side. He was born on March 11, 1947, in Bowling Green to the late Fred and Widdy (Fletcher) Thompson. Steve married his wife Karlyn Bollenbacher Nicholson in 1989 and she survives in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Steve graduated from Bowling Green city schools. He was a BGSU graduate with a Master’s Degree in special education. He taught special education to students for 1 year in Grand Rapids, Michigan and 35 years at Bowling Green city schools. When Steve wasn’t teaching special education, he taught drivers training and ran a 24 run dog kennel. He trained and boarded around 450 upland hunting dogs. Steve and his wife ran the Northwest Ohio Gun Dog Trails for 9 years. Steve was a good friend to all. He was known for his caring, giving, and big-hearted personality. He had an amazing smile and always wanted to help others. He loved the outdoors. Steve enjoyed fishing, shooting sporting clays and pistol targets. He was a lifelong member of the NRA, the Toledo Bass Club and two trout clubs.

Along with his wife Karlyn of 33 years, Steve is survived by his stepdaughter Elizabeth Nicholson (Chris) McVeigh of Colorado, step-granddaughter Autumn Paige McVeigh of Colorado, sister Tami (Tom) Quinn of South Carolina, nieces Taegen Sullivan of Bowling Green, Ohio and Tiffany (Andy) Baer, California.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law Gladys Bollenbacher of Weston, Ohio.

Steve will be missed dearly by Karlyn and Elizabeth.

Services for Steve will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home located in the Historical District of Bowling Green, Ohio at 408 W. Wooster St.
