Genevieve ‘Genny’ Kurfess

Genevieve Kurfess, age 89, of Perrysburg, OH passed away on June 9, 2018 at St. Clare Commons. Born on March 27, 1929 to Frank and Sadie (Shrode) Bowen in Perrysburg, OH. Genny (as she was known to friends and family) graduated from Bowling Green High School and attended Bowling Green State University, In her younger years you could find her leading parades on her horse, Sandy. Genny married the love of her life, William J. Kurfess on November 27, 1954 enjoying 28 years of marriage until hispassing in December of 1982.

Genny retired from Bowling Green State University in 1993 after many years of service. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church, Stony Ridge and had been active in several of its groups. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with family & friends, dancing, listening to music, travel and working outdoors. Her positive outlook on life was infectious and she always had a smile on her face.

Genny is survived by her children: Debra (John) Opdycke, Marcia (Jeff) Bourdo, Janet (Ron) Golightley and Steve Kurfess. Grandchildren: Sarah Opdycke, Jenny (Jai) Vasireddy, Nicole Bourdo, John (Jessica) Opdycke, Andy (Emily) Golightley and Tyler Bourdo, great grandchildren: Cooper Beltran, Colby Beltran and Akash Vasireddy and sister: Mary Eloise Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Hazel Schneider, Norman Bowen, Esther Shinew and Ray Bowen.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11AM from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH with additional visitation from 10AM until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Cindy Ritter. Burial will be in Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey, OH. There will be a bereavement luncheon served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the cemetery committal services. Those giving a memorial contribution may wish to consider: St. John’s Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Clare Commons for the care given to Genny over the past years and also to Rev. Cindy for the many visits and support given to both her and the family.
