Ghanbari appointed to Great Lakes Commission, Great Lakes Basin Compact

State Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari, R-Perrysburg, has been appointed by Speaker Larry Householder to serve on the Great Lakes Commission and the Great Lakes Basin Compact.

“I am honored by the special faith and confidence Speaker Householder has placed in me through this vitally important appointment,” said  Ghanbari. “Governor DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative, and House Bill 7, which I introduced last week, underscore Ohio’s commitment to the protection, preservation, and restoration of the water quality of Ohio’s lakes and rivers. The Great Lakes are one of our world’s greatest natural resources, and Ohio’s representation in the Great Lakes Commission and Great Lakes Basin Compact reinforces the importance of working closely with the seven other member states as well as Québec and Ontario in order to address common concerns, develop solutions and collectively advance an agenda to protect and enhance the region’s economic prosperity and environmental health.”

Ghanbari joins State Senator John Eklund, R-Munson Township, as the two elected officials from the State of Ohio to serve on the Commission along with the Directors of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the President of the Lake Carriers’ Association.

The Great Lakes Basin Compact promotes the use and conservation of the Great Lakes Basin’s water. The compact looks out for the welfare and development of the Basin, as well as advising on the balance of industrial, commercial, agricultural, water supply, residential, recreational, and other legitimate uses of the water resources of the Basin.

The Great Lakes Commission was created by the Great Lakes Compact, the Commission is tasked with enforcing and implementing the vision and directives of the Great Lakes Basin Compact.
