Wood County echoed the red wave across the state sending Haraz Ghanbari back to the Ohio House to represent the 75th District for a third term and adding to U.S. Rep. Bob Latta’s easy win in the Fifth Congressional District.
Ghanbari defeated Perrysburg City Council member Jan Materni, with almost 60 percent of the vote.
Latta won re-election over Craig Swartz with 66 percent of the vote. In his home county , he came in with 62 percent of the vote.
One of the few bright spots for the Democrats was U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s lead over J.R. Majewski, with 55 percent of the vote, with 132 precincts in Lucas County still to report. She received 58 percent of the vote in the northern section of Wood County that has been added to the district.
Turnout in the county was 52 percent with 48,022 voters casting ballots. Of those, 31,326 voted on election day, and 16,696 voted beforehand. Those who voted early and by absentee leaned far more Democratic than those who voted on election day.
In the state’s contentious Senate race, J.D. Vance received almost 52 percent of the vote with Tim Ryan, a BGSU graduate, bringing in 48 percent.
