More vandalism has been reported in City Park – this time involving drawings of a swastika and “vulgar” images in the Stone Shelterhouse.
Bowling Green Police responded Thursday morning after a park and recreation employee reported new graffiti in the Stone Shelterhouse. She told police that she had seen a group of juveniles in the shelter around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Two picnic tables had been defaced with some type of marker. One picnic table had a swastika, the letter “N” and another symbol written in red marker. Another table had a “vulgar statement” written in black marker. There was also a small drawing of a penis in black marker on the shelter wall, and a drawing of a penis in red marker on the fireplace cover.
Police patrolled the park around 3 p.m. on Thursday, to see if the same group might be at the shelter.
An officer approached the five juveniles in the shelter to ask them about the graffiti found earlier in the day. As the officer was talking with the kids, he observed fresh graffiti of vulgar images and words on two of the picnic tables. The new graffiti was written in red marker, and a red marker was seen sitting on one of the defaced tables.
One of the juveniles said she was responsible for the graffiti on Thursday, but not on Wednesday. The other juveniles denied involvement. Parents or guardians of all the minors were called to the park.
The police report was forwarded to the Wood County juvenile prosecutor for possible criminal charges.
The police are patrolling City Park more frequently now after several incidents of vandalism in the restrooms next to the skate park area.
