To support the national campaign for preservation #ThisPlaceMatters, a group photo will be taken at the Wood County Historical Center, 13660 County Home Road in Bowling Green, this Thursday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the Paupers’ Cemetery. This location was chosen as a “kick-off” for the Historical Society’s 2019 re-dedication of the cemetery in conjunction with the museum’s Poor Farms of Ohio exhibit.

In the event of rain, another, dryer location will be selected. Signs will be posted along County Home Road to indicate the location of the photo shoot either way.  This event is open to the public.

This Place Matters is a national campaign that encourages people to celebrate the places that are meaningful to them and to their communities. During the month of May, the community is encouraged to post on social media photos of the Wood County Historical Center & Museum, or other cultural institutions that are important to them, using the hashtag #ThisPlaceMatters.

This campaign isn’t just about photography – it’s about telling the stories of the places we can’t live without. Through This Place Matters, the National Trust hopes to encourage and inspire an ongoing dialogue about the importance of place and preservation in all of our lives that lasts far beyond the month of May.

More information about the campaign is available at woodcountyhistory.org/thisplacematters.html or from the FaceBook page for the National Trust.

The Wood County Historical Museum opened in 1975 after serving as the Wood County Infirmary from 1869-1971. The Wood County Historical Center & Museum is managed jointly by the Wood County Commissioners Doris I. Herringshaw, Ed.D – President; Craig LaHote – Vice President, & Dr. Theodore H. Bowlus – Member; the Wood County Historical Society; and the Wood County Park District. The Society is a community organization that makes connections between our past, present and future by capturing stories and cultivating memories of Wood County, Ohio and the County Home.
