Habitat for Humanity to break ground on first home in BG

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County Ohio will host a ground breaking ceremony for its inaugural build in Bowling Green at the corner of Clough Street and Manville Avenue Monday, Aug. 13, at noon.

Future homeowner Marlene Lerch, along with representatives from the organization, City of Bowling Green and Bowling Green State University will share remarks.

The ceremony will kick off construction for the first of three homes to be built in the city over the next three years. The lots for the homes were donated by the Department of Public Utilities in 2017, giving Habitat the land resources necessary to build within city limits for the first time.

“We invite the public to join us and our partners in celebrating this pivotal event,” Executive Director Mark Ohashi said.

Habitat is also partnering with the university through the “BGSU Builds” initiative with students, faculty and staff. To date, $40,000 has been raised through student organizations, community donations and private gifts.

Sponsorship opportunities to complete funding for the project are still available. Contact Mark Ohashi at mohashi@wchabitat.org to become a sponsor.
