(Submitted by Wood County Health District)

Wood County Health District has released its 2017 Annual Report, which provides a snapshot of the agency’s programs, services and activities from the prior year. The report contains financial information and achievements from 2017, such as the health department’s new role in coordinating public health emergency preparedness for 18 counties in Northwest Ohio.

The annual report also includes updates from each of the health department’s four main divisions: Environmental Health, Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Health Promotion and Preparedness, and the Community Health Center.

“Our mission is to prevent disease, promote healthy lifestyles and protect the health of everyone in Wood County, and our ultimate goal is to help our county be the healthiest in Ohio,” Wood County Health Commissioner Ben Batey said in the annual report introduction. “I believe that over the last year, we both took action to benefit the health of individuals and to move Wood County forward as a leader in Northwest Ohio, and across the state and the nation.”

Other sections of the annual report detail Wood County Health District’s role in responding to drug addiction and the nationwide opiate crisis, and ways the health department uses grant funding to form partnerships with other community organizations.
