High-speed chase ends and suspects caught in BG

A high-speed chase ended in Bowling Green Thursday around 12:30 a.m., with one suspect caught by a state trooper and the other found hiding in a dumpster by Bowling Green police officers.

Arrested were Darrin Ellis, 20, and Kobe Reedy, 20, both of Detroit.

Around 12:25 a.m., Bowling Green Police heard the Wood County Sheriff’s Office inform its units of a pursuit on southbound Interstate 75. BG police planned to get onto the highway and to the turnaround to try to deter the vehicle from turning off at the Wooster Street exit.

But the vehicle was moving at such a high rate of speed that the police vehicles were unable to get positioned. The vehicle went west on East Wooster Street, with the Ohio State Patrol following.

According to the BG Police report, the suspect vehicle was swerving into eastbound lanes and back across all lanes while accelerating at fast rates. A radio request was made for units to attempt to get to Thurstin Avenue to divert the suspect vehicle from the downtown area. However, the vehicle`s extreme speed did not allow for time to do so.

The vehicle went through the downtown, then turned north onto North Church Street, where it crashed.

When police arrived, the vehicle was smoking and both front doors were open. The Ohio State Patrol trooper in pursuit was on foot looking for the subjects in the 100-200 blocks of North Church Street.

Police surrounded the area. The state trooper quickly took one suspect into custody. The second suspect was seen in the city parking lot in the 100 block of North Church Street.

A short time later, two Bowling Green officers located the other suspect in a dumpster adjacent to the parking lot, and took him into custody without incident.

Both suspects were put in custody of the Ohio State Patrol, which is handling the crash investigation.
