PEMBERVILLE—The heart of downtown Pemberville will be filled with holiday cheer during Christmas in the Village the weekend of Nov. 25-26.
Merchants and Pemberville-Freedom Area Historical Society members will welcome guests to the quaint village on Saturday (Nov. 25) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 26) from noon to 6 p.m.
Santa & Mrs. Claus are scheduled to be in town for a meet and greet. They will stroll the business district, listening to wishes and offering treats compliments of the Pemberville Independent Merchants Association.
The historical society will host an Old-Fashioned Christmas Open House at the Pember-Furry House and One Room School. The Pember-Furry House, believed to be Pemberville’s oldest frame house, will feature Christmas décor from days gone by. Local individuals have been invited to decorate each room along with the one-room school. Admission is free, donations are gladly accepted.
The society property will also feature The Blacksmith Shop and Old Smokehouse. Guests will be able to ask questions of the working blacksmith and purchase one of the historical society’s famous smoked sausage on a stick.
Pemberville’s downtown merchants invite guests to shop & stroll along Front Street. Ten shops, boutiques and eateries will offer “Hometown Hospitality,” featuring an array of plants and florals, apparel, home décor, vintage Christmas, antiques, Amish edibles, yarns, children’s gifts, jewelry and more. Good eats and sweets will be available for dine-in or carryout. Holiday photo opportunities and Christmas music sponsored by the merchants will add to the downtown festivities. New this year will be a Coffee Truck offering a variety of coffees, lattes and more, along with Poppin’ George’s Kettle Corn. Back by popular demand will be The Tangled Tinsel Christmas Resale Shop (open three days only – Friday, Nov.24 through Sunday, Nov. 26.
Pemberville’s Town Hall will be the setting once again for the annual Bake Shoppe. This fundraiser for the historical society is a perennial favorite and offers a variety of homemade cookies, pies, candies and breads. All proceeds benefit the historical society and the restoration and upkeep of Pemberville’s historic properties.
The Festival of Trees will be located in the Pemberville Opera House, featuring 14 beautifully decorated trees with the theme – Holiday Television Memories. Admission is $5 per adult; children 12 and under are free with paid adult. Ticket holders have voting rights for their favorite trees. Complimentary holiday refreshments are included with the purchase of a tree fest ticket. Holiday musical selections will be offered periodically by strolling musicians, at the Opera House & at The Gathering Place.
The finale to Sunday’s festivities will be Pemberville’s Annual Lighted Christmas Parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Bigger & Brighter-themed parade is open to all, participants must register and check in Sunday (Nov. 26) at the Scout Cabin (Memorial Drive) between 4-6 p.m.
The parade will start at the corner of Memorial Drive and Front St. (State Route 105) near the Pemberville Public Library, travel west through the downtown business district, and end near the Pemberville Town Hall/Mason Park.
Santa Claus will be the parade finale and will lead guests to Mason Park at the corner of Main and Pine Streets for the annual Christmas tree lighting. The Eastwood 7th Grade Band will perform musical selections for the carol sing. Santa Claus and Pemberville Mayor Carol Bailey will welcome guests and light the tree.
