Horse killed, Grand Rapids man injured in crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating an injury crash that occurred on Saturday, Sept. 29, at approximately 9 p.m. on Old US 24 near Jeffers Road, Providence Township, Lucas County.

Michelle Leverette, age 49, of Swanton was riding horseback eastbound on the westbound side of the roadway. David Glenn, age 50, of Grand Rapids was riding horseback eastbound on the westbound side of the roadway.

Cherie Dupler, age 70, of Swanton was driving a Chevy Cruze westbound. Dupler was wearing her seatbelt.

Leverette and her horse were able to get off the side of the roadway. Glenn and his horse were in the roadway when Dupler struck them. The horse was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Glenn was transported by ground ambulance to the University of Toledo Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Both Dupler and Leverette were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately one and a half hours.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
