Hospital patient arrested after reportedly hitting and kicking nurses

A patient at Wood County Hospital was arrested Sunday after reportedly hitting and kicking members of the nursing staff.

Matthew R. Baldridge, 22, Bowling Green, was charged with assault and taken to Wood County Jail.

Bowling Green Police Division was called on Sunday, around 12:30 p.m., for a report of a patient hitting and kicking staff.

Police had already been at the hospital 11 Sunday morning for a similar complaint involving Baldridge. During that call, staff reported that he was becoming violent with hospital staff.

When police arrived for the first call, Baldridge was reportedly compliant and allowed the staff to place his monitors back on. Staff advised that they were awaiting the arrival of Unison to determine if Baldridge would be transported to a different hospital for evaluation.

When police arrived the second time, they were met by nursing staff in the ICU, one who had an ice pack on her jaw. She said during a procedure that Baldridge kneed her twice in the right cheek. She also stated that he attempted to bite one of the other nurses.

Baldridge was reportedly calm when the police arrived. A Unison employee advised that Baldridge was “pink slipped” for involuntary commitment, but due to his violent behavior, he would not be admitted to any local hospitals. The Unison worker said he would be re-evaluated the next day at the jail.
