Joneal B. (Renz) Bender, age 94, of Custar, OH passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Lakes of Monclova, Maumee, OH. She was born on May 14, 1928 in Toledo, OH to Rudolph and Hazel (Daywalt) Renz. She graduated from Woodward High School in Toledo and later married George M. Bender, on November 14, 1953 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Toledo, OH. Joneal and George raised 2 children and celebrated nearly 63 years of marriage before George’s passing in 2016.
In addition to being a homemaker and taking care of her family, Joneal worked as a Director at the Wood County Board of Elections from 1976 to 1982. She later worked as a secretary at Lake Township from 1987 to 2009. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, having held the position of Worthy Matron in 1965 of the Palestine Chapter #51 in Toledo. She enjoyed her rose gardens, feeding and watching the birds. Joneal also enjoyed in her younger years canning and freezing fruits and vegetables.
Joneal is survived by her children: Joneal “Jody” R. (David Johnson) Bender of Walbridge and Todd (Beverly) Bender of Custar. Grandson, Kenneth (Stephany Webb) DeLine and 3 great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law: Carolyn Renz, Mary Frances (Joseph) Leggins and Jean Elaine (Robert) Farthing. In addition to her husband George, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Rudy and Jack Renz, and sister, Marlynn Bauer.
Joneal will be laid to rest 1 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 W. Central Ave., Toledo, OH. Officiating will be Rev. James Budke.
