Jordan Allison Nichols, 20, passed away late on August 27th, 2023, at Toledo Hospital after complications from an appendectomy.
She is survived by her parents, Eric and Marianne Nichols, her brothers, Kale and Braden, her large extended family, and her close friends.
Jordan was born on April 29th, 2003, in Columbus, Ohio but Bowling Green was her home for the past 14 years. She attended St. Aloysius for elementary and junior high, and then Notre Dame Academy for high school, before studying for the past two years at BGSU. She was a gifted and hardworking student on the dean’s list learning to become an intervention specialist. Her kindness and patience helped her see potential in everyone and she was so excited to help those who might have otherwise been left behind.
Jordan was wonderfully creative and artistic. She played the piano since she was little and although she usually played classical songs for her concerts, her favorite genre to play was ragtime, which suited her personality much better. She liked sketching, and knitting, and liked to paint little rocks and gnomes for her mother’s garden. She was a skilled creative writer and she loved poetry which she mostly wrote for herself. The work she did share could be beautiful, intelligent, nuanced, chaotic at times, and very funny, much like she was.
Jordan was athletic, playing soccer for most of her life and golf in high school. She enjoyed sports but loved the friends she had on these teams even more. She was always encouraging to her close group of friends, and they admired and valued her different perspective and unique mind. She liked to go thrifting with them and to watch bad movies and TV shows.
She liked the character and charm of the old world and got to visit Europe several times, seeing Paris with her nana, southern Europe with her friends, and most recently, the Icelandic nature with her dad. She found peace in nature and particularly enjoyed the stillness of the Appalachian Mountains and the warmth of her grandparents lakehouse in Tennessee. She was protective and motherly to her pets: Juan Pablo the chihuahua, her spirit animal who preceded her in death earlier this year, and her new baby, Milo the Pitbull mix, whom she and her roommates rescued this year. She was even more protective of her little brother and loved to sneak him away from home to eat junk food. Her understanding and patience with him helped her realize her potential to teach.
Unlike most people, when she saw inequality or sadness in the world, she didn’t shy away or accept it. She always stood up for those who suffered and took action to make the world better through volunteering in the community, learning American Sign Language to connect with those who are ignored, and working with children whom others would not give a chance.
Jordan was sentimental and messy, unexpectedly brave and tough, and had an infectious laugh. She had her own goals and standards and was always the person she wanted to be. She endured many challenges in her life and suffered from general anxiety disorder, but she always overcame these challenges and didn’t let them stop her from finding happiness.
She was so supportive of her brothers in everything they did. She was her mom’s best friend, and they talked every day. She brought out the best in her dad and made him a better person.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home located in the Historical District of Bowling Green, Ohio at 408 W. Wooster St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. located at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Father Mark Davis will officiate. A private burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
