Judith Mercer

Judith “Judy” Ethel Mercer, 92, of Bowling Green, passed away on April 5, 2016 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center.
She was born on October 15, 1923 in Passaic, New Jersey to Elmer G. and Ethyl H. Twist. On September 8, 1951, she married Jackson “Jack” R. Mercer, as the result of a blind date they went on while students at Bowling Green State University. Jack survives her in Bowling Green.

Judy was a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority while at Bowling Green, and maintained lifelong friendship with her sorority sisters. After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1949, she worked as a secretary at the former U.S. Army Ordnance Depot in Rossford, Ohio. She left this job when birth of their son, Todd Allen, was approaching in 1962. After Todd was in elementary school, Judy sought a job that gave her flexibility to be available for Todd’s needs while getting her back in the workforce. For over 25 years, she enjoyed her second career as an Avon Lady, earning many sales awards and countless loyal customers who became friends. After completing her Avon career, Judy and Jack enjoyed traveling the country to attend Jack’s 320 the Bomb Wing reunions, visiting old friends and visiting Todd where he was stationed in Germany, Cleveland, Texas and North Carolina.

In addition to Jack, she is survived by her son, Todd (Maria) of Horb am Neckar, Germany, grandchildren Jackson R. Mercer of Alabama, and Maximillian and Olivia Mercer of Germany, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Barbara (Pete) Brown and sister-in-law Silvia Jean (Ralph) Davis.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Wood County Memory Gardens, Liberty Hi Road. Pastor Gary Saunders will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, Bowling Green.
