Kathleen A. Gaines, 73, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Thursday July 25, 2019 with her family by her side. She was born August 7, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to John and Evelyn (Katon) Thomson. She married Leiland Gaines on February 5, 1965 and he survives in Bowling Green.
Kathleen was a 1963 graduate of Liberty Center High School. She started her career as a beautician and then took on the role of stay-at-home mom. Once her children were older she was a cook for Otsego and Bowling Green Schools.
She loved gardening and flowers, enjoyed crafting, making wreaths, shopping and watching Dr. Phil. She was an avid dog lover and was excited to rescue her dog Lucy from the Wood County Dog Shelter. She was the “world’s best” cook and loved making meals for her family to enjoy. Kathleen and Leiland spent many years camping at Lucy’s 22. She always looked forward to her daily card games with her husband. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Along with her husband of 54 years, Leiland, Kathleen is survived by her daughters Rhonda Doren of Perrysburg, Ohio and Jaci Gaines of Bowling Green, Ohio, grandchildren Drake, Teagan, Trevor, Van, Brianna, Stephanie and Shannon and her brothers James (Rae) Thomson of Bowling Green and John Thomson of Grand Rapids, Ohio and her beloved dog Lucy.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 30, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Her funeral service will immediately follow the visitation Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral Home. Atonn Smeltzer will officiate. Interment will be private at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Wood County Dog Shelter or the Wood County Humane Society.
