Kathleen Delores Coffman, formerly of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 at Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Living Community after an 11-year long and graceful struggle with dementia. Kathleen was born on September 21, 1926 in Defiance, Ohio the daughter of Fred and Rose Mack. She married her loving husband Malcolm on July 10, 1948 and he predeceased her in 2009. Kathleen was a 1944 graduate of Defiance High School and a 1947 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio. Part of her career as a registered nurse included 26 years taking care of college students at the Bowling Green State University Student Health Center. Kathleen will be remembered as one who spontaneously offered her assistance to take care of the needs of others. She never shied away from helping those less fortunate whether it was volunteering at St.Louis Soup Kitchen or visiting and aiding family and friends with health or personal issues. Many experienced the warmth of her hand embrace that instantaneously left one feeling welcomed, appreciated or comforted. She was always a humble advocate for all and truly displayed her Christian faith in her compassion and kindness. Kathleen was also the consummate hostess and loved every minute of it. Many will remember gatherings, especially 4th of July celebrations, at the Coffman family pool. It was important for her to always make sure that guests felt comfortable and welcome in her home. She was always more concerned about others than herself, but she would not have had it any other way. Her kindness and caring was her calling and her way of life. She is lovingly remembered by her son Michael, daughters Vicki Thompson and Sue Donaldson, son-in-laws Ron Thompson and Gary Donaldson, and sister Patricia Lang. Her warm and nurturing love will be missed by her 7 grandchildren, Anthony, Daniel, Matthew, Meghan, Michael, Erin, Justin, and their families. Kathleen leaves 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Many friends acquired throughout her life also sadly mourn her passing. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Rosemary, Rita, and Dorothy, and brothers Fred and Richard. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 21, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. with a Scripture Vigil Service held at 7:30 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home located at 408 West Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio.
