Kurtiss Lee Smelser, 63, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away June 24, 2022 at home under Hospice care. Kurtiss was born on March 24, 1959 to Janet Joy (Mettie) and the late Roger Smelser in Lancaster, Ohio. He married Jean Ann Pastor on October 24, 2003, and she survives.
Also surviving: His mother Janet, daughter Holly Smelser; son Traviss (Blair Hopkins); stepsons Jason Pastor (Lindsay LaPorta) and Bradly Pastor; brothers Kelley (Laura), Kurbie; nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by father Roger and sister Rogena.
Kurtiss attended Amanda Clear Creek High School, Class of 1977, receiving one of two Charles Kilburger Scholarships given in Fairfield County. He worked his entire career as a Hearing Aid Specialist, retiring from Starkey Industries after 25 years. Kurt’s acumen as a gardener resulted in a beautifully landscaped property. He is also much remembered for his music. As a singer-songwriter he enjoyed performing his 30+ songs for friends and family on his guitar. His practical optimism was a guiding light to all who knew him. He will be missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
