A man who walked on campus with a firearm Sunday (April 18) is being charged with inducing panic.
Daniel Patrick Seymour was taken to the Wood County Jail, and released on his own recognizance. He is not a student, nor staff or faculty member.
Michael Bratton, BGSU media strategist, said Monday the university would not be releasing more information because the investigation is still in progress.
He did share a copy of the university policy pertaining to weapons on campus. The policy states: “No person shall possess, store or use a firearm, deadly weapon or dangerous ordinance as defined in the Ohio Revised Code, in and/or on university owned, rented and/or sponsored property except where specifically permitted.”
Exceptions include law enforcement officers and members of the university’s ROTC unit.
The presence of the man carrying a firearm near the Carillon dining facility and Kohl residence hall was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.
Bowling Green State University police issued an alert to the campus community to shelter in place. This follows university safety protocols, According to a statement from university spokesperson Alex Solis.
The man was located and identified by campus police. He was taken into custody and is being criminally charged with inducing panic.
“This was not an active shooting; there were no injuries or shots fired,” Solis stated.
