Mary E Goodenow

Mary Elizabeth Goodenow, 66, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Thursday August 30, 2018. She was born September 16, 1951 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Del and Dorothy (Hohler) Seiler. She married Dan Goodenow November 23, 1973 and he survives in Bowling Green.

Mary graduated from Sandusky High School in 1969 and came to BGSU in the fall of that year. She received her BA in Education from BGSU in 1973. She worked for one year in Vermilion, Ohio at St. Mary Catholic Elementary School. In 1974, she was hired as a teacher at St. Aloysius Catholic School in Bowling Green. Mary worked at St. Al’s for over 35 years as a junior high teacher, and stepped up when needed to serve two years as the school principal. After retiring from St. Aloysius, Mary was an intervention tutor at Eastwood elementary schools for five years.

Mary was an instructor in the Catholic Diocese Model Teachers program for many years, and won the distinguished Toledo Diocese Golden Apple Award in 2006, which was established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools.

She was active within the St. Aloysius community, including positions of Summer Camp Director at Camp DeSales, Girl Scout leader and roles on both the school and parish councils.
While at BGSU, Mary became a member of a campus Christian Women’s club, Kappa Phi. Mary remained active in the organization her entire life, including being the Sponsor for the BGSU club for many years. She was active in the Kappa Phi Alumni Association, and made many life-long friends through Kappa Phi activities.

Mary was married to Dan Goodenow and he survives, along with daughters Debra (Paul) Messman and Beth (Craig) Corrigan.

She is also survived by her seven siblings, James Seiler of Sandusky, Ohio, John (Joellen) Seiler of Sandusky, Ohio, Larry (Snooki) Seiler of Sandusky, Ohio, Bernie (Candace) Seiler of Huron, Ohio, Jean Dye of Sandusky, Ohio, Jill (Paul) Schroeder of Sandusky, Oho and Janet Lippus of Sandusky, Ohio.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. A Scripture Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S. Enterprise St. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Father Mark Davis will officiate. Interment will immediately follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Following the services at the cemetery, a luncheon will be held at Nazareth Hall. 21211 W. River Rd. Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522.

Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to St. Aloysius Catholic School Development Fund or the Kappa Phi Development Fund.
