Masks no longer required on BG school buses; driver shortage continues

Students dropped off by bus at Conneaut Elementary School in 2021.

Masks are no longer required on Bowling Green City Schools buses, according to an email sent out by Superintendent Francis Scruci this morning to parents and students.

The CDC has announced that the mask mandate on buses has been lifted.  Therefore, masks will be optional on Bowling Green City Schools buses as they are in the school buildings.

While that announcement comes at the beginning of spring and may be a sign of things improving, Scruci said, the district’s shortage of drivers continues.  Next week the following routes below will be impacted for transportation to and from home.

The following buses are canceled on the following dates:

  • Bus #4 and bus #6 – Monday, Feb. 28, and Tuesday, March 1.
  • Bus #10 and bus #16 – Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3.
  • Bus #7 and bus #24 – Friday, March 4.

“We again thank you for your understanding, patience, flexibility, and support as we continue to navigate this difficult time,” Scruci wrote in his email. “I also want to thank the drivers who have been working hard to transport our students all year long.  Their work sometimes goes unnoticed but they are vital to operation of our school, transporting our most valuable assets, (our students).”
