It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Conibear, 66, on July 26, 2024, at his home in Amherst, Ohio.
Born in Detroit, MI, Michael was the son of Maxine (deceased) and Robert Conibear. He attended Bowling Green High School, class of 1976, where he excelled in basketball and hockey. Michael attended Western Michigan University (WMU), graduating in 1980, and was a proud WMU Division IA basketball team member.
Michael is survived by his father, Robert Conibear; stepmother, Judy Conibear; sister, Connie Conibear Warley (Lance); and stepbrothers, Patrick Murphy (Jackie) and Daniel Murphy. Michael was immensely proud of his children Gavin, Gretchen, and Gwyneth Conibear.
Michael dedicated over 40 years of his life to the Boys & Girls Club Organization, working in Valparaiso, IN, Toledo, OH, and Lorain, OH. He touched the lives of and mentored thousands of at-risk children and raised millions of dollars in donations from friends, corporations, and professional athletes. In his most recent role as Executive Director, he worked tirelessly to increase youth services, providing a community and a safe place for these individuals to attend.
He was instrumental in starting after-school tutoring programs, offering breakfast and lunch programs, and arranging for donations of backpacks and school supplies, which supported many young people in need. Michael received numerous awards and accolades throughout his tenure and left an extraordinary legacy of philanthropy and compassion.
The main services will be held on August 8th at 3 pm, at Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Ave, Lorain OH. With calling hours beginning at 2:00pm.
Friends may call on the family to offer their love and support on August 1, 2024, between 4 pm and 6 pm at Beckett’s Restaurant, 1630 S. Main Street, Bowling Green, Ohio.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mike Conibear Scholarship Foundation through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio. All gifts and checks need to be made out specifically to the Mike Conibear Scholarship Foundation at 4111 Pearl Ave, Lorain Ohio or Camp Algonquin, a childhood favorite spot of Michael’s and his family, PO Box 252, 2055 Iroquois Trail, Hastings, MI 49058.
