Michigan man charged with resisting arrest by BG police

A Michigan man was charged with disorderly conduct with persistence and resisting arrest after he reportedly tried to instigate a fight downtown, then attempted to get away from Bowling Green police.

Blake Spencer, 21, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, was noticed Sunday at 1:48 a.m., by police in an unmarked vehicle as he and three other while males reportedly began arguing and “squaring up” like they were picking a fight with two black males in the area of 103 N. Prospect St.

The police advised the men to stop arguing and to disperse.

The police in the unmarked car then watched to make sure the men went their separate directions. However, Spencer reportedly reapproached the two men and again began instigating an argument.

Two officers approached, and reportedly saw Spencer forcefully shove one of the men. An officer grabbed Spencer by the left wrist to separate him from the other two men. Spencer reportedly ripped his wrist away from the officer and tried to flee on foot. An officer grabbed Spencer again, and the man reportedly began forcing the officer backwards until both men fell. Spencer reportedly continued to resist arrest, and again tried to flee.

When other officers arrived on the scene, Spencer reportedly stopped resisting.

The officer trying to arrest Spencer reported minor abrasions to both knees.
