Bowling Green Police pulled over a vehicle for a missing side rearview mirror and ended up arresting two people on drug and weapon charges.
An officer noticed the vehicle with a missing mirror Friday at 2:55 p.m. on East Wooster Street at Mercer Road. The vehicle pulled over in the Falcon Health Center parking lot.
As soon as the car stopped, the driver, Kelvin Mays, 41, of North Baltimore, reportedly took off running. The officer relayed Mays’ description and direction of travel to other units.
The officer then spoke with Teri Foster, 46, North Baltimore, who was in the front passenger seat. She reportedly told police that Mays’ name was Christian Meijers. She also told the officer there were no weapons in the car.
The officer reported smelling marijuana, and Foster said there might be some in the car. She reached for her purse, and told police there was nothing in there except a vape pen. But then, according to the police report, she said, “Wait, my gun.”
The officer grabbed the purse and found a Ruger .38 caliber revolver that was loaded with five rounds.
Dispatch then reported that they could find no information on Christian Meijers. As the officer searched the rest of Foster’s purse, he located a driver’s license for Kelvin Mays, who looked like the man who ran from the car.
Foster told police she met Mays over Christian Mingle, but claimed it was not Mays who ran from the car.
When the officer ran Mays’ name through LEADS, it showed Mays had a suspended driver’s license as well as felony warrants for his arrest.
Meanwhile, other officers located Mays and placed him under arrest. Police reportedly found a large quantity of crack with his shirt – enough to charge him with trafficking as well as possession.
Mays was arrested for warrants from the ATF, Toledo and Lucas County, along with charges for possession of crack, drug trafficking, DUS-child support, DUS-failure to reinstate and rearview mirrors.
Foster was arrested for obstructing justice and a concealed carry weapon permit violation.
Both were taken to the Wood County Jail.
